CHILDREN'S RESPITE SERVICES

WHO is this for?
Children’s Respite Services are for children between the ages of 3 and 17 with Autism Spectrum Disorder who reside in the Niagara Region.

WHAT is provided?
Children’s Respite Services offer a variety of programs including:

After School Social Skills Program
This program will operate between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at our Schmon site. Children will attend group sessions covering such topics as Social Skills, Coping with Anxiety, and Anger Management.

Saturday Respite Program
This program will operate on Saturdays at our Schmon site and in the community. Children will learn social skills while they participate in community outings.

Preschool Respite Program
This program will be offered to children ages 3-5 and will run once a week between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at our Schmon site. The program will enhance the children’s social and play skills.

Intensive In-home Respite Support Services
This program will be offered to families connected with Autism Consultation Services who have children with challenging behaviours. The Behaviour Therapist Assistant will offer in-home respite relief to parents and will work in collaboration with the Autism Resource Consultant to implement recommendations and/or Behaviour Intervention Plans.

Summer Camp Respite

This summer camp program will run for six weeks in the summer, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at our Schmon site. Children will attend identified weeks according to their age.

Coordination of Respite Flex Fund
The Autism Resource Consultant (ARC) will coordinate the distribution of Respite Flex dollars for the region. The ARC will work with community agencies to develop criteria on how the fund will be managed. Families can access this resource to purchase alternative respite services in the community.
